Horizontal fencing gives a contemporary look to any garden.  The photos above show Oak horizontal fencing in both a very large garden and in a small Courtyard garden. The longer run in the larger garden uses vertical batons  to hide the joints in the horizontal slats giving a more unified seamless look.
The open slats offer less resistance to wind but still screens effectively.
Oak is a hard wood and as such is very long lasting and requires little maintenance. It is ideal for this style of fencing as it has very few knots / knot holes and so gives a uniform finish and a much smarter look.
