Our traditional hand crafted cleft chestnut post and rail fence is a strong, long lasting, rustic looking fence.

This traditional post and rail fencing is capable of lasting 40 years or more.
The rails have carefully tapered ends, which fit into substantial 2m cleft half round chestnut posts which have been morticed to take either two or three rails per bay.
Can be supplied with the bark on or off.

How?

Cleft Chestnut Post & Rail fencing is a traditional product, using the natural quality of a wood that has been grown in this country.
It is made from chestnut poles that are cleaved by hand into pales. The skilled use of the chestnut cleaver that splits with the grain gives the maximum strength and durability.
The 2.0m or 2.9m long rails are cleft from 20-30 year old straight chestnut wood, using wedges to give an attractive natural finish.
